Revenge Body: Fitness After Divorce

Apr 18, 2024

Divorce is mentally draining, but have you ever thought about the toll that it takes on our physical bodies? I know that exercise can seem like an unattainable goal at any time, let alone a stressful time like divorce, but you have to take time for yourself. This isn't for anyone, but you and you deserve it.

Fitness doesn't have to be a full-blown workout. Take a walk, do some stretches, make space for yourself to focus on your mind, body and spirit. You may have little eyes watching how you respond during this time and of course, it's okay for them to see you break-down or have a tough day but think about what they will take away from the experience, as a whole.

If you have the right mindset and start to take control in a positive way, your children will pick up on that. It's so important to your physical and mental well-being to be active. It's cliche, but it's true...we can't take care of others, unless we first take care of ourselves.

Melissa Vogel of Melissa Vogel Fitness and the Bomb Mom podcast was our guest on this week's Find Me The Money podcast talking about Revenge Body: Fitness After Divorce. Being well and caring for yourself is so important after your divorce and Melissa shares that in the spirit of "the best revenge is being well," it's key for women to focus on true self-love and taking back their control.

Melissa reminds us that how we talk to ourselves and how we truly see ourselves matters. You want the right mindset for this new you to last. So, how do you do that?

Be Consistent.
Schedule this time for yourself and stick to it. It only takes 21 days to make a habit.

Trust the Process.
No matter how many fad diet "successes" you hear on social media, nothing is overnight. If you put in the time and effort, you will see results and if you stay the course, those results will last.

Make it Fun.
Don't dread your fitness routine. Do what you enjoy and make it a point to think positively about this time that you have set aside for yourself.

Show Up for You.
You wouldn't dream of letting your kids down by not showing up for them. You are important, so put that same emphasis on you.

Being a boss after divorce mentally and physically takes time and intentional effort. There will be ups and downs, but don't give up on yourself. And if you happen to get that "revenge body", during the process, show it off, girl. You deserve it.
